The first of a series combining outdoor furniture and contemporary pots for smaller balconies.

Inspired by this apartment in Sao Paulo, Brazil we have created a similar layout. A small space that offers plenty of options, effectively extending your living space and creating an extra entertaining and relaxing space.

Combining outdoor furniture and contemporary pots to create extra living space

Our theoretical balcony is 2.3m x 5m, not tiny but on the small side when it comes to apartment balconies. In this space we have dining for four and a casual seating spot. We have swung the casual seating area around as running a bench along the balcony railing isn't the safest option. By breaking the row of planters part way along the balcony you have more circulation space around the table and also have a spot to lean on the balcony railing and enjoy the view.

Our overall budget for the outdoor furniture and garden pots came to $3,135. Add a few cushions that co-ordinate with the Bistro furniture and some plants to complete the look. We went for a charcoal, blues and greens scheme but the beauty of the Fermob collections is the array of possible colour combinations. Combine Nutmeg and Willow Green Bistro furniture with Dune coloured pots for a more neutral, earthy scheme or add pops of bright colour for a fun contemporary look.

The other bonus with the Bistro collection is that they fold. If you don't regularly need four chairs why not hang the spares on the wall. They look great and at only 4kgs each are easy to hang.

We can work this scheme to fit your space, send us a few pictures and some measurements and we'll put together a colour combination and work out the best sized pots and furniture.
