The Brief
To create greenery, interest, and purpose to various spaces of the house. Furniture to be selected must be contemporary and sleek to reflect the interior style and continue the flow between the spaces. Pots to be selected must be modern and compliment the existing exterior finishes. Plants to be selected must be low maintenance and of architectural style.
The Solution - Furniture
Entertaining Courtyard
We selected the Reflective Dining Table as it is contemporary and sleek, reflecting the interior style. This will continue the flow between both spaces and will also create a sense of unity. From the interior, its reflective, glass top doesn't detract from the line of sight to the backyard and pool area, creating the illusion of more space. Its stainless steel frame will compliment the stainless steel found on the interior furniture as well as the chrome balustrades around the pool.
Placed around the table are eight Bayview Mesh Chairs in white. They also have a sleek and contemporary look due to their stainless steel and open framed style. This compliments the Reflective Dining Table's frame and the interior finishes. Their colour also ties in with the white found inside the interior creating a sense of unity and continuity between the spaces.
This table setting was a perfect addition and provided purpose to the area when relaxing or while entertaining with family and friends.
Pool Area
We selected a Marine Bench Seat in white to sit in the centre of the far end of the pool to add entertaining purposes to the area. Its modern style, white colour and stainless steel frame will compliment the table setting in the entertaining courtyard, connecting the two spaces together. It also helped brighten the existing earthy tones of the exterior.
The Solution - Feature Pots & Plants
We selected the Atlantis range of pots as their finish and colour compliment the existing exterior finishes and gave each space a sense of grandeur and sophistication. Their modern, round shapes helped soften the crisp, straight lines found throughout the residence and their warm toning and texture will give each space more depth and warmth. This as a whole created a more inviting atmosphere.
We considered Terrazzo pots in white as an alternative pot solution if the client was trying to achieve a more crisp and stark look. This was our second choice as they may be to harsh against the earthier tones of the existing exterior finishes.
Entry
We placed a lineal grouping of four large Atlantis Crucibles planted with Yucca Head's against the balustrade on the entry balcony. The Yucca's added greenery and interest to the space as well as making the balcony more inviting. They also provide more privacy from the street.
Entertainment Courtyard
A small Atlantis Egg Pot planted with a Jade is placed in the centre of the Reflective Dining Table to create a focal point in the space. The Jade adds softness and creates contrast with its round leaves against the sleek table. It also added greenery to the table and links the backyard to the courtyard, continuing the flow between the spaces.
Pool Area
We selected two large Atlantis Egg Pots planted with Double Cane Yucca's to sit either side of the Marine Bench. The Yucca's bring height to this end of the pool area and help disguise the blank wall behind. They also bring a sculptural element to the space due to there angular and sharp leaves which add interest to this area without detracting away from the main feature, being the pool's waterfall.
A feature grouping of a large Atlantis Crucible planted with a Yucca Head, a medium Atlantis Crucible planted with a Jade and a medium Atlantis Egg Pot planted with a Lirope Muscari is placed near the furthest entry gate. The Yucca brings depth to the grouping due to its thick foliage. Planted below, the Jade's round leaves contrast against the Yucca and Liriope's sharp, angular leaves. It also brings softness to the grouping adding interest. The Liriope finishes the grouping by repeating the Yucca's shape and form achieveing a sense of balance. The Liriope also tie's in with the existing Lirope planted near the water feature, creating consistency and unity in the space.
We placed a large Atlantis Crucible planted with a Yucca Head next to the first gate entry into the area. Its symmetrical positioning to the feature grouping on the opposite side of the pool creates a sense of balance. The Yucca also adds greenery to this end of the area connecting the entertaining area and interior spaces together.
Master Bedroom Balcony
In the right hand corner along the balustrade we placed a feature grouping that consists of a large Atlantis Crucible planted with a Double Cane Yucca, a medium Atlantis Crucible planted with a Cordyline Red Star and a medium Atlantis Egg Pot panted with a Jade. We also added a large Atlantis Crucible planted with a Double Cane Yucca in the left hand corner to achieve a sense of balance and to create maximum impact from the street frontage.
The Yucca's provide the space with height which creates more privacy from the street frontage. They also add a sculptural element due to their sharp, angular leaves. Planted below, the Cordyline Red Star's burgundy tones compliment the feature wall found in the master bedroom. Its colour also creates contrast against the green tones of the Yucca and Jade adding more depth to the space. To finish the grouping we selected Jade as its round leaves will soften the grouping as well as contrasting against the Yucca's and Cordyline's angular leaves.
Bedroom Balcony
I have placed two large Atlantis Crucibles planted with Double Cane Yucca's in both corners along the balustrade side of the balcony. The Yucca's will add height and greenery to the space as well as a sculptural element due to their angular leaves and long cane's. Their symmetrical positioning also achieves a sense of balance and creates maximum impact from the street frontage.
Both first floor balconies have Double Cane Yucca's and the entry on the ground floor has Yucca head's. These plants are all from the same family. This kept the design at the front of the house consistent and unified creating maximum impact from the street frontage.
