The Brief:
To create a warm and inviting space through the use of pot's and plants. Pots selected must reflect interior style to continue the flow between the two spaces. Plants selected must be modern and low maintenance. Screening is required to disguise office building next door. A wall feature is to be incorporated to enhance the appeal of the balcony.
The Solution:
Furniture
We have used an existing chair and positioned it to allow maximum space on the balcony as well as providing a purpose to the area. Two outdoor scatter cushions in Linen Mandarine & Saba Spa Paisley are on the armchair to tie in the tones and patterns of the interior. This will bring the two spaces together.
Feature Pots & Plants
We have selected the Atlantis range of pot's as they compliment the colours and textures of the interior style. Their earthy tones and crackled finish will bring texture and warmth to the space. Their round shapes will also add softness. We would select each individual pot to ensure a consistent colour palette with a preference for pots with more of the brown, earthier tones to compliment the existing armchair.
Along the left side of the balcony we have placed three large Atlantis Crucibles planted with Triple Cane Yucca's. The yucca's will add height and density which will provide screening and more privacy from the office building next door. They will also bring a sculptural element to the space due to their angular leaves.
We have placed a feature grouping of three pots in the right hand corner closest to the balustrade. The grouping is made up of an Atlantis Kos Small, an Atlantis Samos Large and an Atlantis Water Jar planted with Liriope Evergreen Muscari. We haven't planted the Kos and Samos pots with anything as they are features on their own due to their detail and large size. The Liriope planted in the Water Jar will add softness to the grouping and to the space as well as tying in with the colour of the Yucca's.
Wall Feature
We have selected a Triple Bamboo Panel to be hung on the right wall as they will reflect the oriental and worldly style of the interior. This will unify and continue the flow between the two spaces. Their rusty colour will also compliment the brown tones of the interior furniture and the Atlantis pots as well as adding warmth to the balcony.
Finishing Touches
The pots are mulched with "white" 20-30mm stones. These tie in with the white inside your living areas as well as helping to mulch the soil.
